I think it’s describing the cyclic patterns of these kinds of relationships where one person is hurt from a previous relationship and then takes it out on the new gf.

I think Kimbre is the new gf and she’s breaking up with him because Gotye is hung up on his ex who he is singing the chorus to.

And when Kimbre breaks up with him, he’s probably singing the chorus to her. And chances are Kimbre will go and continue
the cycle with a future boyfriend by taking things out on him due to her being still hung up on Gotye.

lol.
